Hi, first of all I study design at Universidad de Chile. Right know I'm at the finals of my fourth semester and there's definitely some changes I would make in the current study program. For example, I would eliminate the course called "Transversal" of the whole study program. Because is supposed to make the students from the three careers, interact and learn to work with each other. However, the groups are not well distributed, so everybody is mostly working with people that already know. Besides, it's really time consuming, and every hour counts in this career.
Something else I would change, is the mandatory attendance. In the program there's this course called "Proyecto", it's the main course in the whole career, extremely demanding and time consuming. Besides this semester there's another course called "Procesos y Prototipos" that requires a lot of manual work at the workshop. That being said, the mandatory attendance for other courses make it more difficult, 'cause there's moments when you have to sacrifice your lunch or sleep time to finish all the work.
Going back to the workshop, that's something that definitely needs to change. The space in general is not enough for everyone, and the staff definitely needs more support.
Overall, the career can be super exhausting because the study program is pretty intense. So maybe these changes can make it a bit more lighter.
I would not eliminate the transversal subject, but I would organize it differently.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the Transversal either, because it is not a real experience of working with the municipality or reality... I would not eliminate it, maybe I will change it. In my section all the groups are well distributed, because they all have people from different careers.
